SB 131 (2009)

relative to state hiring of veterans.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Subject: Military & Veterans' Affairs
  • Chapter law: 217

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 9, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 18, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 14, 2009. The committee met in executive session on April 21, 2009 and May 12, 2009. The committee voted 12–5 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1608h). The committee's amendment (1608h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 20, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On May 20, 2009 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 3, 2009 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Cilley. On June 10, 2009 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for Committee of Conference (Rep Irwin)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 17, 2009 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 15, 2009, making it Chapter 217 of the session laws.
