SB 119 (2009)

relative to certain health coverage.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection
  • Subject: Insurance
  • Chapter law: 305

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 9, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 18, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 16, 2009. The committee held work sessions on April 22, 2009, April 28, 2009 and May 5, 2009. The committee met in executive session on May 5, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1497h). The committee's amendment (1497h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 20, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On June 3, 2009 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Hassan. On June 10, 2009 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for Committee of Conference (Rep Butler)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 16, 2009 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2359) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 31, 2009, making it Chapter 305 of the session laws.
