The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Election Law and Veterans' Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 10, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 18, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 4, 2009 and was referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 12, 2009. The committee met in executive session on April 22, 2009 and April 29, 2009. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1436h). The committee's amendment (1436h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 6, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On May 6, 2009 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 20, 2009 the Senate adopted “Sen. Lasky Concurs with House Amendment (1436h)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 27, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 30, 2009, making it Chapter 139 of the session laws.
