SB 116 (2009)

repealing the prohibition on political contributions by insurance companies.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Election Law and Veterans' Affairs
  • Subject: Elections
  • Chapter law: 96

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the Senate Election Law and Veterans' Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 10, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 18, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 4, 2009 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Election Law committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on April 21, 2009. The committee met in executive session on April 22, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 10–7. On April 29, 2009 the House adopted “Special Ordered to Regular Place on Next Calendar (Rep Pierce)” on a voice vote. On May 6, 2009 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 13, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 12, 2009, making it Chapter 96 of the session laws.
