HB 459 (2009)

relative to access to restorative justice programs by victims of crime.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
  • Chapter law: 283

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 3, 2009. The committee met in executive session on March 5, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0635h). The committee's amendment (0635h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On March 24, 2009 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 8, 2009 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 26, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On June 3, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 10, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2079) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 29, 2009, making it Chapter 283 of the session laws.
