The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 3, 2009. The committee held a work session on March 17, 2009. The committee met in executive session on March 18, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 18–2 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0900h). The committee's amendment (0900h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On March 24, 2009 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 8, 2009 and was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 5, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1559s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 13, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On May 13, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On June 3, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 10, 2009 the House adopted “House Non-Concurs w/Senate AM #1559s & Requests Comm of Conf (Rep Almy)” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 15, 2009 and June 16, 2009 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2361) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 15, 2009, making it Chapter 205 of the session laws.
