The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2009 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 5, 2009. The committee met in executive session on March 12, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it. On March 24, 2009 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 8, 2009 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 19, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1753s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 27, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On May 27, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 10, 2009 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1753s (Rep Gile)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 10, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 29, 2009, making it Chapter 281 of the session laws.
