HB 187-FN (2009)

relative to the state building code and establishing a committee to study the sale and installation of manufactured and modular homes and related consumer protections.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2009-2010
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 175

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 2009 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on March 5, 2009. The committee held work sessions on March 9, 2009 and March 17, 2009. The committee met in executive session on March 17, 2009 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 15–2 to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 0844h). The committee's amendment (0844h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 26, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On March 26, 2009 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 8, 2009 and was referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 28, 2009. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1547s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 13, 2009, changing the text of the bill. On May 13, 2009 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 3, 2009 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment #1547s (Rep Butler)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 10, 2009 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 13, 2009, making it Chapter 175 of the session laws.
