SB 85 (2008)

relative to eligibility for the property tax exemption for the disabled.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2007-2008
  • House committee: Municipal and County Government
  • Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs
  • Subject: Taxes - Local
  • Chapter law: 307

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 6, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (0534), offered by Sen. DeVries, was adopted on a voice vote on March 15, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On March 15, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2007 and was referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 17, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 3, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on June 26, 2007, August 15, 2007, August 28, 2007, September 5, 2007 and September 11, 2007. The committee met in executive session on October 3, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 11–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2409h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2409h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 23, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On January 23, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 21, 2008 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Hassan. The bill was enrolled on June 5, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 8, 2008, making it Chapter 307 of the session laws.
