SB 63 (2008)

authorizing the commissioner of revenue administration to extend tax filing deadlines for certain members of the armed forces.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2007-2008
  • House committee: Ways and Means
  • Senate committee: Ways and Means
  • Subject: Taxes - State
  • Chapter law: 306

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 30, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 8, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2007 and was referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 17, 2007. The committee held work sessions on May 2, 2007 and May 8, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 8, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on September 12, 2007, October 25, 2007 and November 7, 2007. The committee met in executive session on November 13, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2619h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2619h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 2, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On January 2, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 21, 2008 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Odell. The bill was enrolled on June 5, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 8, 2008, making it Chapter 306 of the session laws.
