The Story

It was introduced on January 2, 2008 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 4, 2008. On March 20, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 1, 2008. The committee met in executive session on April 22, 2008 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 12–6 to recommend that the House pass it. On May 7, 2008 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 15, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 6, 2008, making it Chapter 124 of the session laws.
