The Story
It was introduced on January 2, 2008 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 22, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 6, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 12, 2008 and was referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Executive Departments and Administration committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on April 3, 2008. The committee held a work session on April 3, 2008. The committee met in executive session on April 15, 2008 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 15–1 to recommend that the House pass it. On April 23, 2008 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 1, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 28, 2008.
