SB 370 (2008)

relative to emergency powers of the supreme court.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2007-2008
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 346

The Story

It was introduced on January 2, 2008 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 15, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On January 23, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 13, 2008 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 26, 2008. The committee met in executive session on April 9, 2008 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1197h). The committee's amendment (1197h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 23, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On April 23, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 21, 2008 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Foster. A committee of conference met on May 23, 2008 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 20, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 8, 2008, making it Chapter 346 of the session laws.
