The Story

On March 6, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1041) was rejected on a voice vote on March 20, 2008. On March 20, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 2, 2008. The committee held work sessions on April 15, 2008 and April 22, 2008. The committee met in executive session on April 22, 2008 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 1351h). The committee's amendment (1351h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 30, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On April 30, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 21, 2008 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Odell.
