SB 236 (2008)

extending the authority for police mutual aid.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2007-2008
  • House committee: Municipal and County Government
  • Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 260

The Story

It was introduced on February 8, 2007 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 12, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 1, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 3, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on May 16, 2007. On May 16, 2007 the House adopted “Recommit (Rep Patten)” on a voice vote. The committee met in executive session on May 17, 2007 and May 24, 2007. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on June 26, 2007, August 29, 2007 and September 11, 2007. The committee met in executive session on October 24, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2408h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2408h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 2, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On January 2, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 21, 2008 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Hassan. The bill was enrolled on June 5, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 30, 2008, making it Chapter 260 of the session laws.
