The Story

The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1070) was adopted on a voice vote on April 5, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On April 5, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 11, 2007 and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 1, 2007. The committee held work sessions on May 9, 2007 and May 15, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 22, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on June 12, 2007, June 26, 2007, August 29, 2007, October 17, 2007, October 25, 2007, October 31, 2007 and November 7, 2007. The committee met in executive session on November 8, 2007 and November 13, 2007. The committee voted 15–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2641h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2641h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 2, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On January 2, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 21, 2008 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Fuller Clark. The bill was enrolled on June 5, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 8, 2008, making it Chapter 308 of the session laws.
