HB 702 (2008)
relative to continued jurisdiction in child protection cases.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2007-2008
- House committee: Children and Family Law
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Children
- Chapter law: 204
The Story
It was introduced on January 31, 2007 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 8, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 22, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on August 30, 2007, September 27, 2007 and October 17, 2007. The committee met in executive session on November 1, 2007 and November 6, 2007. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2512h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2512h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 2, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On January 2, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on January 31, 2008 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 3, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 1, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 21, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1792) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 16, 2008, making it Chapter 204 of the session laws.
