The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 12, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 20, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held a work session on September 18, 2007. The committee met in executive session on November 13, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. A floor amendment (2592h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 23, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On January 23, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 21, 2008 and was referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held public hearings on March 10, 2008 and March 18, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 17, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 1, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. It became law without the governor's signature on July 6, 2008, as Chapter 330. The governor neither signed it nor returned it, and the docket records it as enacted under Part II, Article 44 of the state constitution.
