  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2007-2008
  • House committee: Science, Technology and Energy
  • Senate committee: Energy, Environment and Economic Development
  • Subject: Energy and Utilities
  • Chapter law: 113

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the House Science, Technology and Energy committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2007. The committee held work sessions on February 8, 2007, February 13, 2007 and February 16, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 20, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on September 5, 2007 and October 22, 2007. The committee met in executive session on November 8, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. A floor amendment (2661h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 23, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On January 23, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 21, 2008 and was referred to the Senate Energy, Environment and Economic Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 3, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1239) was adopted on a voice vote on April 10, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On April 10, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 30, 2008 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment #1239 NT (Rep Kaen)” on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (1699) was adopted on May 7, 2008. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 15, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1699) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 3, 2008, making it Chapter 113 of the session laws.
