The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 30, 2007. The committee met in executive session on February 13, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on April 24, 2007 and May 15, 2007. The committee met in executive session on October 23, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it (amendment 2435h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2435h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 2, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On January 2, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 21, 2008 and was referred to the Senate Transportation and Interstate Cooperation committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 26, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 10, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on April 30, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 12, 2008, making it Chapter 16 of the session laws.
