The Story

It was introduced on January 2, 2008 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 12, 2008. The committee met in executive session on February 20, 2008 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 16–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0699h). The committee's amendment (0699h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 5, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On March 5, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 27, 2008 and was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 8, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate study it after the session ends. On May 1, 2008 the Senate rejected a motion to study it after the session ends on a voice vote. A floor amendment (1641), offered by Sen. Estabrook, was adopted on a roll call 14–10 on May 1, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On May 1, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 7, 2008 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment #1641 (Rep Rosenwald)” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 15, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 3, 2008, making it Chapter 119 of the session laws.
