The Story

It was introduced on January 2, 2008 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 31, 2008. The committee held work sessions on February 7, 2008 and February 14, 2008. The committee met in executive session on February 20, 2008 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0729h). The committee's amendment (0729h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 5, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On March 5, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 27, 2008 and was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 15, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1481) was adopted on a voice vote on May 1, 2008, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (1645), offered by Sen. Estabrook, was adopted on a voice vote on May 1, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On May 1, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 7, 2008 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendments #1481 and #1645 (Rep Rosenwald)” on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (1857) was adopted on May 15, 2008. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 21, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (1857) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 11, 2008, making it Chapter 186 of the session laws.
