  • Term: 2007-2008
  • House committee: Transportation
  • Senate committee: Transportation and Interstate Cooperation
  • Subject: Motor Vehicles
  • Chapter law: 149

The Story

It was introduced on January 2, 2008 and referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 17, 2008. The committee met in executive session on February 12, 2008 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0238h). The committee's amendment (0238h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 5, 2008, changing the text of the bill. On March 5, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 13, 2008 and was referred to the Senate Transportation and Interstate Cooperation committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 5, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 15, 2008 the Senate rejected a motion to lay it on the table on a division vote 9–14, on a motion by Sen. Gatsas. On May 15, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 13–10 and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 21, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 6, 2008, making it Chapter 149 of the session laws.
