The Story

It was introduced on January 2, 2008 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 17, 2008. The committee met in executive session on February 12, 2008 and February 19, 2008. The majority recommended that the House pass it (amendment 0080h), and the minority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 0540h), by a vote of 8–6. The committee's amendment (0080h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 18, 2008, changing the text of the bill. The committee's amendment (0540h) was rejected on a roll call 120–194 on March 18, 2008. On March 18, 2008 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 191–123. It crossed to the Senate on March 27, 2008 and was referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 22, 2008. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 1, 2008 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 14–10 and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 15, 2008 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 6, 2008, making it Chapter 137 of the session laws.
