The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 13, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (0163) was adopted on a voice vote on February 22, 2007, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (0352), offered by Sen. Barnes, was rejected on a roll call 9–15 on February 22, 2007. On February 22, 2007 the Senate adopted “Reconsideration on Floor Amendment (NT){0352}” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Hassan. A floor amendment (0352), offered by Sen. Barnes, was rejected on a roll call 8–16 on February 22, 2007. On February 22, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 17–7 and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2007 and was referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 17, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 3, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 12–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 16, 2007 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 12, 2007, making it Chapter 113 of the session laws.
