The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the Senate Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (0139) was adopted on a voice vote on February 15, 2007, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (0228), offered by Sen. Reynolds, was adopted on a voice vote on February 15, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On February 15, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 23–0 and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2007 and was referred to the House Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 18, 2007. The committee held work sessions on April 18, 2007 and May 17, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 17, 2007 and May 22, 2007. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (1697h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 31, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On May 31, 2007 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 13, 2007 the Senate adopted “Sen. D’Allesandro Non Concur with House Amendment{1697}(New Title)” on a voice vote. On June 13, 2007 the Senate adopted “Requests Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 18, 2007 and June 20, 2007 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 27, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 20, 2007, making it Chapter 334 of the session laws.
