The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 6, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 15, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2007 and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 1, 2007. The committee held work sessions on May 15, 2007, May 22, 2007 and May 29, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 29, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 13–6. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (1911h) was adopted on a voice vote on June 6, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On June 6, 2007 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 227–122. On June 13, 2007 the Senate adopted “Sen. Gottesman Concurs with House Amendment{1911}” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 27, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2376) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 23, 2007, making it Chapter 379 of the session laws.
