The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (1095), offered by Sen. Gottesman, was adopted on a voice vote on April 5, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On April 5, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 11, 2007 and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held public hearings on May 3, 2007 and May 9, 2007. The committee held work sessions on May 15, 2007, May 22, 2007 and May 29, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 29, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1767h) was adopted on a voice vote on June 6, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On June 6, 2007 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 13, 2007 the Senate adopted “Sen. Gottesman Concurs with House Amendment{1767}” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 27, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 20, 2007, making it Chapter 314 of the session laws.
