The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On April 5, 2007 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Hassan. On April 12, 2007 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Gottesman. The committee's amendment (1022) was adopted on a voice vote on April 12, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On April 12, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 14–10 and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 3, 2007. The committee held work sessions on May 15, 2007, May 22, 2007 and May 29, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 29, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1768h) was adopted on a voice vote on June 6, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On June 6, 2007 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 13, 2007 the Senate adopted “Requests Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 19, 2007 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill.
