The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 6, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 15, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2007 and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 18, 2007. The committee held a work session on May 9, 2007. The committee met in executive session on May 9, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1550h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 16, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On May 16, 2007 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 13, 2007 the Senate adopted “Requests Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 18, 2007 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 27, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 20, 2007, making it Chapter 343 of the session laws.
