The Story
It was introduced on January 31, 2007 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 8, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 19, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–6. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 4, 2007 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 209–106. It crossed to the Senate on April 12, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 15, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 24, 2007 the Senate adopted “Ougt to Pass” on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 14, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 20, 2007, making it Chapter 153 of the session laws.
