HB 735 (2007)

relative to the form of the presidential primary election ballot, relative to administration of official oaths, and relative to assistant election officials.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2007-2008
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Election Law and Internal Affairs
  • Subject: Elections
  • Chapter law: 331

The Story

It was introduced on January 31, 2007 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 12, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 14, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 27, 2007 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 5, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Election Law and Internal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1673) was adopted on a voice vote on May 24, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On May 24, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 14, 2007 the Senate adopted “Sen. Burling Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 18, 2007 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 27, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 20, 2007, making it Chapter 331 of the session laws.
