The Story

It was introduced on January 31, 2007 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 13, 2007. The committee met in executive session on February 20, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee recommended that the House pass it. On March 6, 2007 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 29, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held public hearings on May 8, 2007 and May 15, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1669) was adopted on a voice vote on May 24, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On May 24, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 13, 2007 the House adopted “House Non Concurs with Senate AM #1699NT, Request Comm of Conf, Rep Rosenwald” on a voice vote. On June 14, 2007 the Senate adopted “Sen. Estabrook Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 20, 2007 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 27, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 20, 2007, making it Chapter 330 of the session laws.
