The Story

It was introduced on January 31, 2007 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 8, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 20, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 27, 2007 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 5, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 15, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (2022) was adopted on a voice vote on June 7, 2007, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2080), offered by Sen. Foster, was adopted on a voice vote on June 7, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On June 7, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 13, 2007 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #2022s & #2080s, Rep W. Knowles” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 14, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 5, 2007, making it Chapter 284 of the session laws.
