HB 659-FN (2007)

exempting certain motor vehicles manufactured prior to 1949 from vehicle equipment and inspection requirements.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2007-2008
  • House committee: Transportation
  • Senate committee: Transportation and Interstate Cooperation
  • Subject: Motor Vehicles
  • Chapter law: 327

The Story

It was introduced on January 31, 2007 and referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 14, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 15, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 27, 2007 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 5, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Transportation and Interstate Cooperation committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 25, 2007. The committee's amendment (1565) was adopted on a voice vote on May 17, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On May 17, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 14, 2007 the Senate adopted “Sen. Letourneau Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 19, 2007 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 27, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2380) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 20, 2007, making it Chapter 327 of the session laws.
