The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 22, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 15, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 27, 2007 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 5, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Election Law and Internal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 10, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 24, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 12, 2007, making it Chapter 96 of the session laws.
