The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 16, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 20, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 13–6. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (0350h) was adopted on a division vote 301–39 on March 27, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On March 27, 2007 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 204–135. It crossed to the Senate on April 18, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 16, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 31, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 7, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 20, 2007, making it Chapter 176 of the session laws.
