The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 22, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 20, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 15–2 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 4, 2007 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 286–69. It crossed to the Senate on April 5, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 10, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (1348), offered by Sen. Kenney, was rejected on a roll call 6–18 on April 26, 2007. On April 26, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 19–5 and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 1, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 14, 2007, making it Chapter 24 of the session laws.
