  • Term: 2007-2008
  • House committee: Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services
  • Senate committee: Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection

The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 22, 2007. The committee met in executive session on March 14, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 13–4 to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (0530h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 21, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On March 21, 2007 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 29, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 17, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1266) was adopted on a voice vote on May 24, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On May 24, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 7, 2007 the House adopted “House Non-Concurs with Senate AM #1266s, Request Comm of Conf, Rep Mears” on a voice vote. On June 14, 2007 the Senate adopted “Sen. Gottesman Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 18, 2007 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. The bill was enrolled on June 27, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2383) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 23, 2007, making it Chapter 373 of the session laws.
