The Story

The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 8–4. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (0917h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 27, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On March 27, 2007 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 12, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 14, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (2025) was adopted on a voice vote on June 7, 2007, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2067), offered by Sen. Odell, was adopted on a voice vote on June 7, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On June 7, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 13, 2007 the House adopted “House Non Concurs with Senate AM, Request Comm of Conf, Rep Irwin” on a voice vote. On June 14, 2007 the Senate adopted “Sen. Odell Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 19, 2007 and June 21, 2007 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill.
