The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2007 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 30, 2007. The committee met in executive session on February 6, 2007 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 14–3 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On February 15, 2007 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 22, 2007 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2007. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. The committee's amendment (1006) was adopted on a voice vote on April 5, 2007, changing the text of the bill. On April 5, 2007 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 16, 2007 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate AM #1006, Rep Rous” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2007 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 12, 2007, making it Chapter 71 of the session laws.
