The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2006 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 19, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it (amendment 1393). The committee's amendment (1393) was adopted on a voice vote on March 22, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On March 22, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On March 22, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2006 and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2006. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 19, 2006 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 26, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2095) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 23, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 25, 2006, making it Chapter 182 of the session laws. It took effect on July 24, 2006.
