The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2006 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 2006. On February 2, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On February 10, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. It crossed to the House on February 22, 2006 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 28, 2006. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 12, 2006 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 27, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 5, 2006, making it Chapter 91 of the session laws. It took effect on May 5, 2006.
