The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2006 and referred to the Senate Transportation and Interstate Cooperation committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0998). The committee's amendment (0998) was adopted on a voice vote on February 23, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On February 23, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On February 23, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. It crossed to the House on February 23, 2006 and was referred to the House Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 28, 2006. The committee voted unanimously, 11–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 1600h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 26, 2006 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 11, 2006 the Senate adopted “Sen. Letourneau Concur with House Amendment” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 24, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2331) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 19, 2006, making it Chapter 317 of the session laws. It took effect on August 18, 2006.
