requiring insurance coverage for certified midwives.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2005-2006
  • House committee: Commerce
  • Senate committee: Banks and Insurance
  • Subject: Insurance
  • Chapter law: 8

The Story

It was introduced on January 27, 2005 and referred to the Senate Banks and Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 17, 2005. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 17, 2005 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On March 17, 2005 the Senate voted to pass it. It crossed to the House on March 23, 2005 and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 2005. The committee held work sessions on April 21, 2005, May 5, 2005, May 12, 2005 and May 17, 2005. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 14–7. On June 1, 2005 the House adopted “Recommitted to Commerce” on a division vote 207–125. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on September 21, 2005, October 25, 2005, November 1, 2005 and November 10, 2005. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 5, 2006 the House voted to pass it with changes. On January 18, 2006 the Senate adopted “Sen. Flanders Concur with House Amendment” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on February 2, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on February 13, 2006, making it Chapter 8 of the session laws. It took effect on April 14, 2006.
