The Story

It was introduced on January 27, 2005 and referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 16, 2005. The committee recommended that the Senate send it back to committee. On March 24, 2005 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 0496). On February 2, 2006 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. On March 22, 2006 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote. The committee's amendment (0496) was rejected on a voice vote on March 22, 2006. A floor amendment (1508), offered by Sen. Johnson, was adopted on a voice vote on March 22, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On March 22, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On March 22, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2006 and was referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2006. The committee held a work session on April 11, 2006. On April 19, 2006 the House adopted “deadline rprt bills in comm” on a voice vote. The committee voted 11–7 to recommend that the House kill it. On May 4, 2006 the House voted to kill it on a voice vote.
