The Story
It was introduced on January 26, 2005 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 16, 2005. The committee held work sessions on May 26, 2005, June 7, 2005, September 13, 2005, September 21, 2005 and October 12, 2005. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 4, 2006 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on January 4, 2006 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 8, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 16, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On March 16, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on March 22, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on March 31, 2006, making it Chapter 22 of the session laws.
