The Story
It was introduced on January 26, 2005 and referred to the House Environment and Agriculture committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 24, 2005. The committee held a work session on March 17, 2005. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 24, 2005 and June 9, 2005. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 4, 2006 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on January 4, 2006 and was referred to the Senate Environment and Wildlife committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 9, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 1003). The committee's amendment (1003) was adopted on a voice vote on February 23, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On February 23, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On February 23, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on April 13, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 18, 2006, making it Chapter 39 of the session laws. It took effect on June 17, 2006.
