HB 529 (2006)

relative to the determination of parental rights and responsibilities.

  • Status: Died: conferees could not agree
  • Term: 2005-2006
  • House committee: Children and Family Law
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Domestic Relations

The Story

It was introduced on January 26, 2005 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held public hearings on March 17, 2005 and March 22, 2005. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held a work session on June 15, 2005. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 4, 2006 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on January 4, 2006 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 21, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2037). The committee's amendment (2037) was adopted on a voice vote on May 4, 2006, changing the text of the bill. On May 4, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 23–0 and ordered it to a third reading. On May 4, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. On May 11, 2006 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On May 11, 2006 the Senate adopted “Sen. Foster Accede to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 16, 2006 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill.
