  • Term: 2005-2006
  • House committee: Municipal and County Government

The Story

It was introduced on January 26, 2005 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 23, 2005. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 26, 2005, June 7, 2005 and September 14, 2005. The committee voted 14–2 to recommend that the House pass it with changes, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 4, 2006 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on January 4, 2006 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 15, 2006. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 22, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On March 22, 2006 the Senate voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on March 31, 2006 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 4, 2006, making it Chapter 30 of the session laws. It took effect on June 3, 2006.
